Midget Soccer 2010 We are so pleased you have decided to join midget soccer this year. WHEN?: We start Friday 23rd April at 3.30 pm. We play every Friday in the 2nd and 3rd school terms, but not in the school holidays. WHERE?: Jubilee Park, Gladstone Road, Richmond. (Use South Entrance). Drive in, turn right and we will be behind the club rooms. WHAT DO YOU NEED? Shin pads (approx $12 from Sterling Sports in Richmond), Trainers or boots (There is no need to buy boots at this stage). WHAT DO WE DO? After warming up we divide into small age groups for the activities. We have team exercises, learn individual ball skills, score lots of goals and always play a game. We HAVE HEAPS OF FUN! We need lots of help from Mums and Dads, almost everyone joins in to help. WHAT IF IT RAINS? We will make the decision and e-mail everyone by 2 pm on the Friday concerned. Please can parents without e-mails arrange for another parent to tell them. (As a last resort you may of course phone us, but we are trying to avoid dealing with 30 phone calls!) Some of you may know us from previous years. We have 10 years successful experience in running Midget Soccer. We have found it best to totally involve parents. During the warm up, Alan will explain to you what exercises we are doing that session and what to look for. (eg. Which part of the foot to kick with.) Then we magically have enough coaches to work one to one with the children. This, as you can imagine, produces maximum improvement for everyone. You know also what to practise when they want to play at home. We have often pinched parent’s ideas to improve our coaching so if you have any suggestions, let us know. We divide into (flexible) age groups, because children improve most when playing others of a similar standard. They will play a game every week. Small sided 5, 4 or 3, that way everyone is involved and gets lots of kicks at the ball, instead of the big ones dominating. Good big players will find they are against other good big players so they have to think how to play not just walk over little ones!! At this stage, the emphasis is on enjoyment and each player does as much as he/she wants. So if they are a bit off colour and want to miss a week that’s okay, or if it is Grandma’s birthday in Blenheim, go and see her or bring her to watch too! It is perfectly all right for children to arrive a bit late or go early, if necessary. Please encourage your child all the time, mistakes don’t matter. We look forward to seeing you on Fridays. We also coach at Waimea Plains and hope to play a “real” match with them before the end of the season. Tell friends we are open to new players joining as the season progresses if they wish.
